Bronze Star Citation

Private Richard C. Bennett

Private Richard P.C. Bennett, 36904922, Cavalry, 28th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized), United States Army, for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy on 16 April 1945, in Germany. As an enemy solider attempted to fire his panzerfaust, Private Bennett had his vehicle stopped barely 20 feet in front of the enemy’s position. In the face of the danger, he stood in the open vehicle, and began firing his machine gun, killing the enemy soldier. Private Bennett’s alertness, and quickness in the presence of grave peril, indubitably saved his fellow soldiers from being injured. By his heroic action he set an inspiring example for members of the platoon, meriting high commendation. Entered military service from Illinois.
